ISLAMABAD, March 12: The five-year old murder of a property dealer was unearthed by the capital police on Saturday as it arrested three persons for their alleged involvement in the heinous crime. The property dealer, Zahoor Ahmed was killed in sector G-9/4 on July 14, 2006 when an unidentified person riding on a motorbike shot him dead near Shanwari Hotel.

During investigation, the police found a brand new motorbike without registration number near the crime scene. The police started investigation and found that the bike was sold from a showroom in Gujrat to Mohammad Ansar, a native of the same city

It was also revealed that Mohammad Ansar was a professional assassin. The police launched a hunt for him but he had gone into hiding after the incident. The investigators also arrested victim's partner Riaz Karim, owner and vice chancellor of Sarhad University, Peshawar and owner of Rawal Cadet College, Rawalpindi and his cousin Muhammad Shahbaz on suspicion as Zahoor Ahmed had invested millions of rupees in their university, cadet college and also in their plazas.

However, both were found innocent and were later released.

As the case could not be resolved, Senior Superintendent of Police Tahir Alam Khan constituted a team comprising Superintendents of Police Dr Khuram Rasheed and Haroon Joya, Deputy Superintendent of Police CIA Bashir Noon, Sub-Inspector Muhammad Bashir and other police officials to apprehend the culprits involved in the crime.

The team succeeded in tracing and arresting Mohammad Ansar who confessed murdering Zahoor Ahmed after receiving Rs500,000 from Riaz Karim and Mohammad Shahbaz. He further said in his confessional statement that they also paid for the motorcycle used in the murder.

The police said that the accused hatched a plot to murder Zahoor Ahmed on their failure to return the interest and the loan.

The three accused were produced in the court of law and were given in police custody for four days physical remand.

Update: The three accused in the case, namely Ansar, Riaz Karim and Shahbaz, were acquitted by an Islamabad District and Sessions Court on March 3, 2014.
